Voice Over Internet Protocol Weather Net https://voipwx.net/ This net is run by the National Hurricane Center and is hosted by hams everywhere. Below are ways to connect and monitor hurricane traffic as it happens. After using a variety of hotspots from different vendors I've always been asked the same question by other amateur radio operators. Should I use Pi-Star or WPSD. No software needs to be installed, the web client runs directly in your browser using the same login credentials as your existing EchoLink clients.

I’m currently using POP! OS on an old Dell Latitude E6510 as my daily driver. I enjoy using different flavors of Linux but so far on this laptop this is one of my favorite distros. I made this video because someone messaged me asking about the operating system in a previous video that I made about the Open Spot 4 and I wanted to make a separate video showing the desktop environment. POP! OS on an old Dell Latitude E6510
I was charging my OpenSpot 4 and decided it was time to run the Upgrade tool in the WebGUI. The device is running smooth, the battery is fully charged and ready for use tomorrow morning. I have setup profiles for TGIF and Brandmeister and I can switch between networks simply by selecting the profile I wish to use. My Open Spot 4 was overdue for a firmware upgrade.
SDR or Software Defined Radios has been a popular topic discussion among amateur radio operators. I’ve been listening to a website called WebSDR.org because it has SDR radios from all over the world on their website. You can use these receivers 24x7 right from your browser and listen to amateur radio operators and commercial shortwave broadcasts right from your browser.

In this video, I talk briefly about the WPSD Project. I tested the latest version of the software with my Raspberry Pi 5, and an MMDVM Dual Hat. I was easily able to configure the software via a web interface. The latest stable version of the WPSD software runs on Debian 12, which supports the Raspberry Pi5 but works with all versions of the Raspberry Pi. I’ve even run the Raspberry Pi Zero with the latest software version with ease. If you decide to try the software on your hotspot, I recommend making a new SD card and booting with it so you can see how your device performs without loosing your existing SD card.
The WPSD Project and Pi-Star
In a previous video I was writing a code plug for the Retevis RT-3S and comparing it with the TYT UV-380. Both radios are identical now and are completely improved with the Open GD77 firmware on both radios. Here are both radios side by side. To save battery, I inverted the displays making the text white and the screen black. I set the screen to turn off after 20 seconds. I also set the power on my radio to 50 mw since I’m only using the radio with a DMR hotspot. I have the power set higher for other channels that use repeaters.
